Hubble Space Telescope exhibit opens Saturday

NASA's “New Views of the Universe: Hubble Space Telescope” exhibit will open Saturday at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck.

A free public presentation, taking place at 7 p.m. Friday, at the State Museum will feature NASA program manager Maurice Henderson, who will discuss the history of this observatory and scientific contributions that have been made through its use. Attendees also will have a special viewing of the exhibit following the presentation. NASA has provided free lithographs for attendees, featuring pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.

Since retiring from the telecommunication industry, Henderson has worked extensively with NASA on public outreach and science education.

The temporary exhibition, free and open to the public through June 5,  immerses visitors in the mystery of the Hubble mission. A scale model of Hubble is the focal point. Visitors will learn how the telescope works and about Hubble's contributions to the exploration of planets, stars, galaxies and the universe.

Visitors can also watch short films related to Hubble and NASA space programs during the museum’s regular hours.
