LA SALLE — “Through the Eyes of Hubble: The Mysterious and Spectacular Depths of the Cosmos,” will be presented at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at La Salle Public Library, 305 Marquette St.
Michelle Nichols, Adler Planetarium astro-educator and author, will present the free science discovery program for adults. Nichols will highlight some of the well-known, and not-so-well-known, images and science from the last 27 years of Hubble’s mission.
This program will provide an understanding of why the Hubble Space Telescope has had more impact on astronomy and the public's awareness of astronomy than any other telescope in history. The presentation will include a sneak peek at Hubble’s 2018 replacement: the James Webb Space Telescope, which is scheduled to launch late next year.
Nichols has worked at Adler Planetarium for more than 22 years and holds a Bachelor of Science in physics and astronomy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She leads all of the Adler Planetarium's telescope, observatory and public sky observing initiatives and events.
The program will be made possible through funding from the Alwin C. Carus Trust. For more information, call the library at 815-223-2341.
