LOOK: UCF to wear incredible space-themed football uniforms honoring NASA

One day after Florida released some rather hideous alligator-themed uniforms for its home game vs. Texas A&M, another Florida school swung the pendulum completely in the other direction.

UCF unveiled incredible space-themed uniforms that they'll wear Saturday night at home against East Carolina. The new threads feature a mission patch on the left shoulder, a moon landscape inside the UCF logo on the helmet and a photograph taken by the Hubble space telescope of a portion of the Andromeda Galaxy -- the closest galaxy to our own Milky Way -- that includes constellations drawn out within the stripe.

The Orlando-based school is located just west of Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. It was founded in 1963 in part to support NASA and the growing space program. NASA's Center for Lunar and Asteroid Science is located on the UCF campus, and according to the release, the school produced two astronauts -- Frank Caldiero and Nicole Stott.

When it comes to the alternate uniform mission, UCF (dramatic pause) blasted off.

The Knights are 4-0 and ranked 22nd in the latest AP Top 25. Kickoff against the Pirates is set for 7 p.m. ET at Spectrum Stadium and can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
