Angkasa Pura I teams up with ACI in airport safety evaluation - The Jakarta Post - Jakarta Post

State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I) has collaborated with the Airport Council International (ACI) to run a safety evaluation at Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang, Central Java from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1.

The safety evaluation is part of AP I’s larger initiative under ACI’s Airport Excellence Program (APEX) in Safety. Such safety check-ups are mandatory for members of the international council to ensure that every aspect of an airport is up to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

“Safety is a major principle in aviation; we always strive to maintain and improve our safety standards. In addition, we also pay extra attention to the security, convenience and compliance aspects of our airports,” said AP I operations director Wendo Asrul Rose in Semarang on Monday.

AP I had conducted regular safety evaluations at several airports to make sure that customer convenience was of the highest standards, he said.

ACI’s manager for APEX in Safety, Ermenando Silva, said the evaluation would scrutinize various aspects that accounted for airport safety including fire and flight accident mitigation, aerodrome certification, safety signage and wildlife management.

ACI’s team of auditors comprises experts from various countries including Sydney Airport Corporation’s airfield operations and compliance manager Anthony Conte C. from Australia, the Hong Kong Airport Authority’s airfield infrastructure planning assistant general manager Mak Kwok Kit, Munich Airport’s airside planning manager Denise Corinna Stroessner from Germany and Bangalore International Airport’s aviation safety deputy manager Mahadeva Varier Gireesan from India.

Wendo said Ahmad Yani International Airport was the fifth airport to be evaluated by the ACI in the country. Previously, ACI has evaluated AP I’s four other airports: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali; Sepinggan International Airport in East Kalimantan; Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java; and Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

“We expect six of AP I’s airports to receive ACI’s international safety certificate by the end of this year. To date, 40 airports around the world – four of which are operated by AP I – have been certified by the ACI,” he added. (rfa)
