Online booking company Traveloka, in cooperation with state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, is distributing thousands of N95 respirators to passengers from Feb. 4 to 6 at international departure terminals 2F and 3 of Soekarno-Hatta airport in an effort to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

N95 respirators are a type of face mask that have been proven effective at filtering very small airborne particles of 0.3 microns, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

The masks are being distributed to outbound passengers who present their boarding passes to the Traveloka teams posted in the boarding lounge of the terminals. Passengers bound for Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Tokyo and Singapore are eligible to receive the free masks.

“We are concerned about the current situation and hope it will improve,” Andhini Putri, the head of marketing at Traveloka Indonesia's transport division, said in a press release made available to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

“The safety and convenience of tourists, especially [Traveloka] customers, is our first priority,” she said.

“As a gateway of tourist exchange, we hope this initiative will protect Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from the spread of the coronavirus,” Febri Toga Simatupang, PT Angkasa Pura II's senior manager of branch communication and legal, said in the press release. (gis)
