Hubble Space Telescope Distant Galaxy With Bright Blue Cosmic Gas Filaments

Astronomers are always amazed by the galactic center, the core of any galaxy out there and the place where a supermassive black hole resides in every galaxy. However, there is another aspect that attracts astronomers when it comes to galactic centers, namely, the color. Now, the scientists working with the Hubble Space Telescope shared an image of a distant galaxy with bright blue cosmic gas filaments in its center. This galaxy was dubbed IC 4870, is a so-called “Seyfert Galaxy” and is situated at 28 million light-years away from us.

What makes galaxy IC 4870 a rare finding is precisely its bright blue cosmic gas filaments in its galactic center, which is a rarity.

IC 4870 is, however, not new for astronomers from all over the world as this galaxy was frequently studied by astronomers and, once it has been up and running, by the Hubble Space Telescope.

This galaxy was found by the American astronomer DeLisle Stewart, in 1900.

Galaxy IC 4870 is a spectacular “Seyfert Galaxy” with bright blue cosmic gas filaments in its galactic center

In the middle of the galaxy, there is an active galactic center characterized by a very intense brightness that outshines the rest of the galaxy. Scientists also consider that behind the bright blue cosmic gas filaments, there is a supermassive black hole, as usual.

Also, it is shining in a huge variety of waves, some of which are not in the visible spectrum. Accordingly, the galactic center of this “Seyfert Galaxy” is shining in the visible spectrum but also in UV, infrared, and other wavelengths from radio waves to gamma rays.

Above all, galaxy IC 4870 presents unique radiations patterns that classify it as a “Seyfert Galaxy“, a classification attributed to any galaxy with a small and bright galactic center. IC 4870, with its bright blue cosmic gas filaments in its core, might seem a beautiful place but the high amounts of radiations found there make it be unsuitable for life.
